It's almost time again: The Oktoberfest 2019 officially begins on September 21st. As every year, the question arises: What will I wear? And this question does not only refer to "Dirndl or Lederhosen?", no, the selection of shoes, blouses, hairstyles, accessories, and of course socks, is also huge. In addition, trends are also evident in traditional costumes every year: Dirndls are changing more and more; they are becoming more modern, colorful, eye-catching...
That's why today we're giving you a small overview of trends and ideas for this year's Oktoberfest!
Let's start with the obvious: The Dirndl. There are now many different variations. From the long, traditional Dirndl, to the trendy Midi-Dirndl, to the short Mini-Dirndl - there's something for everyone. When it comes to which length to choose, it simply depends on what makes you feel most comfortable - because they are all beautiful!
Also important: The color. When it comes to this topic, you can see almost all colors at the Oktoberfest. Particularly beautiful and increasingly popular in recent years are pastel shades like pink, light blue, and muted or dark tones like beige, forest green, dark blue, or wine red. If you like it particularly striking and modern, you can also opt for a silver Dirndl or a Dirndl with an interesting print. Prints are super in this year. Discreet, fine patterns look particularly beautiful on a Dirndl, because it shouldn't look too much like a costume.
Next up is the second garment worn under the Dirndl, which creates the well-known Dirndl cleavage: The blouse. Traditionally, this always remains white, regardless of the color of the Dirndl. Nevertheless, there are also some beautiful variations here. Modern off-shoulder blouses or blouses with transparent sleeves and embroidery are totally trendy. How much cleavage you want to show is up to you - from high-necked to low-cut, anything is fine at the Oktoberfest.
So what's still missing to complete the traditional costume? The apron. This, of course, always matches the color of the Dirndl, as it usually only comes in a set. However, here too, you can focus on different models. Instead of the traditional plain or checkered apron, more and more women are wearing transparent aprons with fine, shiny embroidery. And since we're on the subject of aprons, of course we have to mention the age-old rule: How do you tie your bow? It's actually quite simple, because there are only 4 variations. If you tie your bow on the left, you are "still available", i.e., unmarried or single. A bow on the right means: "Hands off, I'm married/taken". The bow in the middle traditionally indicates that you are still a virgin, but in the modern variant, it can also mean: "That's none of your business!". Finally, you can tie the bow at the back. This means you are widowed, a waitress, or still a child.
Another important consideration for finding the perfect Oktoberfest outfit is: What shoes will I wear? A lot is allowed these days. Traditionally, you wear cool, chunky traditional boots with a Dirndl. However, if you prefer something more elegant, there are other options. Pumps, of course, look particularly feminine - but as we all know, they can make it difficult for us to dance the whole evening. So if you spend most of your time on the dance floor, you can also opt for beautiful ballerinas. But that's not all: For a few years now, more and more women have also been wearing casual sneakers with their Dirndls. Here you should pay attention to the style so that they still go well with the Dirndl - such as simple white sneakers - otherwise you have free choice.
Many accessories are also modern now. The traditional edelweiss jewelry always looks great with traditional costumes, but other fine jewelry in gold, silver, or rose gold also creates a special eye-catcher and goes well with the Dirndl.
Next, of course, we'll take care of the hairstyle. When you think of Oktoberfest, you think of braided hairstyles - that's obvious. Whether braided pigtails, a bun or braid with a braided base, or an elaborate updo as a closed variant, a half-up-half-down hairstyle with a braided front section as a semi-open variant, or even completely open straight or curly hair - nowadays you can wear anything at the Oktoberfest, as long as you feel comfortable with it and it creates a cohesive overall look with the traditional costume.
To complete the outfit, one important eye-catcher is still missing: Our Dailysocks! With our Oktoberfest socks Zenzi, you'll cut a fine figure in any shoe. The sock fits perfectly with a Dirndl or Lederhosen, with its traditional, authentic cable knit pattern and ultra-fine Lurex threads as a glittering eye-catcher. If you like it even finer and possibly also transparent or glittering, you will also find what you are looking for at Dailysocks. Like Anna Maria Zimmermann, you can also combine our Lotta perfectly with a Dirndl. The transparent sock with its ruffled cuff is the perfect sock for pretty pumps and gives the entire traditional costume look a girlish touch. Depending on the Dirndl color and style, many more of our socks can also be combined with traditional costumes.
With all these trends for this year's Oktoberfest, we hope we were able to help a little so that you are perfectly prepared! For everyone who has snagged tickets for the Oktoberfest, an extra tip: In addition to Oktoberfest.de, this year you can also find all important information, stalls, tents etc. in the Oktoberfest app, which you can simply download from the App Store.
